The 2011 Montana CattleWomen, Inc.'s Memorial Scholarship has been awarded to Whitney Hoyem, who is attending Montana State University-Northern in Havre.  Whitney is a sophomore, majoring in Business Agriculture. Whitney is the daughter of Gary and Patricia Hoyem of Wilsall.

The Montana CattleWomen's Scholarship is in the amount of $1000.00 and is funded through memorials. Applicants must be from a Montana home and must be enrolled in a Montana institution of post-secondary education, either public or private. Preference is given to a student planning to pursue a career beneficial to the cattle industry.

This scholarship was established in 1963 and has been awarded to worthy students since that time.  Applications for the Scholarship are accepted until March 15. See the Rules, Application, and Instructions.

American National CattleWomen met at the Metropolitan Cooking & Entertaining Show at the Washington Convention Center in Washington D.C. for the 2011 National Beef Cook-Off Event, on November 5 & 6.

All the 2011 National Beef Cook-Off Finalist recipes were demonstrated by chefs to audiences of 100 or more at one time continuing demos through out the two days, while other consumers enjoyed taste samples of the recipes as over 15,000 samples were prepared by catering services and presented in the 2 days, by the CattleWomen, who gave out 2 to 3 different recipes to taste at one time so that the consumers could vote on which one they liked the best. Martin’s Angus Beef of Virginia donated 500 pounds of beef to the event for the taste sampling. The third CattleWomen Booth gave beef fans an opportunity to play a Twitter/Face Book media game or Know your Beef Game, or participate in a Be a Beef Star –by telling a great beef eating experience all put on video. Each participates name was put in a sweepstakes drawing, held at the end of each day.

Sheryl Little of Sherwood, Arkansas was announced at the event as the grand prizewinner with her Vegetable Mangle Beef Stir Fry, her recipe was entered in the Stir Crazy Solutions category she received $25,000.  There were four categories one being Stir Crazy Solutions, the others the 5:00 PM Dinner Crunch, Retro Recipes Revived and Fuel Up With Beef. Each category had a winner; Montana’s Edwina Gadsby of Great Falls won the Fuel Up with Beef Category. Each category winner won $3,000. These were announced in July.

 Beef was the star and the consumer was the target as everyone enjoyed the wonderful taste of beef at the Metropolitan Cooking & Entertaining Show, with over 25,000 guests at the event.  The CattleWomen booths were paid for in part by the Beef Producers through their $1 Per Head Check off. Taking part and helping with the event from the state of Montana were Paulette Keller of Lloyd, and Wanda Pinnow of Baker; they were among the 38 American National CattleWomen helping at the event.  The recipes are available at beefcook-off.org web site.


2011 "Beef in the Kitchen" Beef Cook-Off was held August 3, 2011 at the Montana State Fair in Great Falls, Montana.

Beef Education in the Schools Program - Montana CattleWomen send out notices every fall to Family and Consumer Sciences classes around the state and offer beef education materials for classroom use as well as provide funds for beef purchases used in school labs - for students enrolled in each Family and Consumer Science program.

"Perfect Cheeseburger" - MCW provides the "Perfect Cheeseburger" Program to third grade classes in the state. CattleWomen present a hands-on program using a large cheeseburger pillow to demonstrate the nutritional value of a cheeseburger, and how it fits in the food guide pyramid. Crock of Beef Program - MCW sponsor a crock pot, beef roasts, and vegetables for the graduation classes conducted by SNAP-ED (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education). The "Crock of Beef" program provides an incentive program to low-income families in the state of Montana, to attend classes educating them on nutrition, at the same time and opportunity for the beef industry to educate this consumer group on the validity of purchasing more economical cuts of beef, providing them with information on the importance of nutrient-dense beef in their diets, and providing knowledge on proper cooking, and food safety handling technique of beef.

Women Stepping Forward For Agriculture - USDA in conjunction with the Montana Agri-Women, Montana Farm Bureau Women, Women Involved in Farm Economics (WIFE) and the Montana CattleWomen sponsor an annual symposium for women involved in the promotion of Montana's agriculture. Issues affecting Montana's rural agricultural communities, female operators and farm/ranch families are identified and addressed. FCCLA Award-  This year's FCCLA State Leadership Conference will be held March 25-27, 2012.

The 2011 FCCLA State Leadership Conference was held March 17-19, 2011 in Billings.  Each year the Montana CattleWomen gives a $75.00 Award for the outstanding beef educational display.   The winner of the Montana Food Producers Educational Display: Beef Winner, Wendy White from North Star High School in Rudyard, MT.

  Annual Education Forum held by the Collegiate CattleWomen- Held in conjunction with the Montana Livestock Forum & Nutrition Conference in April at the Gran Tree Inn in Bozeman. Montana CattleWomen help the Collegiate Cattlewomen with Project Funding from the Montana Beef Council to support this Beef Educational Forum. They are an active group and help with other events put on by the Montana CattleWomen and Montana Stockgrowers, as well as their own projects.
