Mary Hawkes of Prescott, AZ won the 28th National Beef Cookoff $25,000 "Best of Beef" Grand Prize, topping recipes from 14 other finalists with her recipe for Sonoma Steaks with Vegetables Bocconcini. The competition awarded $70,000 in total prize money. The contest was held September 23, 2009 in Sonoma, California. 

The winner in each category received $10,000.  This year's category winners are:
  • Live Well with Fast & Convenient Grilled Beef Recipes ($10,000 prize): Kristina Vanni - Hollywood, Calif.
  • Teens Cooking with Beef ($10,000 prize): Morgan Hanrahan - Olympia, Wash.
  • Lean Beef in Nutrient Rich One-Dish Meals ($10,000 prize): Elizabeth Bennett-Mill Creek, Wash.<><>
The runner-up in each category received $5,000.
  • Live Well with Fast & Convenient Grilled Beef Recipes ($5,000 prize): Deborah Biggs - Omaha, Neb.Montana Cattlwomen National Beef Cook-Off
  • Teens Cooking with Beef ($5,000 prize): Erin Ozment - Purcell, Okla.

2010 Montana CattleWomen State Beef Cook-off/"Teens in the Kitchen" Beef Cook-Off - August 4, 2010, State Fair, Great Falls, MT. Click here for registration...

The 2009 Montana CattleWomen Teens in the Kitchen State Beef Cook-Off was held July 29, 2009 in Great Falls at the Family Living Center in partnership with the Cascade County Extension.  Seven teens, 4 boys and 3 girls, did an excellent job showcasing BEEF.  1st Place winner was Dylan Kotecki of Cascade, a Junior in High School, with "Parmesan Butter Steak Salad" winning $150.00; 2nd Place winner was Bryce Widhalm of Great Falls, an 8th grader, with "The Farmer's Foot Long" winning $75.00; and 3rd Place winner was Logan Wedum of Great Falls, an 8th grader winning $50.00, with "Logan's Fiesta Beef."  2010 will be "Teens in the Kitchen" again at the State Fair in Great Falls.  Click here for recipes.......

Beef Education in the Schools Program - Montana CattleWomen send out notices every fall to Family and Consumer Sciences classes around the state and offer beef education materials for classroom use as well as provide funds for beef purchases used in school labs - for students enrolled in each Family and Consumer Science program.

"Perfect Cheeseburger" - MCW provides the "Perfect Cheeseburger" Program to third grade classes in the state. CattleWomen present a hands-on program using a large cheeseburger pillow to demonstrate the nutritional value of a cheeseburger, and how it fits in the food guide pyramid. Crock of Beef Program - MCW sponsor a crock pot, beef roasts, and vegetables for the graduation classes conducted by SNAP-ED (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education). The "Crock of Beef" program provides an incentive program to low-income families in the state of Montana, to attend classes educating them on nutrition, at the same time and opportunity for the beef industry to educate this consumer group on the validity of purchasing more economical cuts of beef, providing them with information on the importance of nutrient-dense beef in their diets, and providing knowledge on proper cooking, and food safety handling technique of beef.

Women Stepping Forward For Agriculture - USDA in conjunction with the Montana Agri-Women, Montana Farm Bureau Women, Women Involved in Farm Economics (WIFE) and the Montana CattleWomen sponsor an annual symposium for women involved in the promotion of Montana's agriculture. Issues affecting Montana's rural agricultural communities, female operators and farm/ranch families are identified and addressed. The symposium also supports women's leadership roles within Montana's agricultural communities. The 2009 national Beef Ambassador is Jessica Sampson from Gazelle, California. Sierra Simpson from Kremlin, Oklahoma Sharon Byrne from Nottingham, Pennsylvania; Allison Grainger from Brenham, Texas; Bradley Copenhaver from Blackburg, Virginia; were chosen as 2009 National Beef Ambassador Team Winners at the annual competition held Oct. 9-11 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

2010 National Beef Ambassadors
The 2010 National Beef Ambassador Team Winners are Malorie Bankhead, Livermore CA; Rebecca Vraspir, Laramie WY; Ellen Hoffschneider, Arlington NE; Jackson Alexander, Anadarko OK; and Mandy-Jo Laurent, Winnsboro TX.
      16 contestants were judged in the areas of Consumer Promotion, Classroom Presentation, Media Interview Technique and Issues Response at the 2010 National Beef Ambassador Contest in Fort Smith, AR October 9-11, 2009.

FCCLA Award- The FCCLA State Leadership Conference was held March 18-20, 2010 in Billings.  Each year the Montana CattleWomen gives a $75.00 Award for the outstanding beef educational display.  The Winner of the 2010 Montana Food Producers Education Display was Lindsey Salmi of Hot Springs High School.  Next year's convention will be held March 17-19, 2011 in Billings, MT.
     The FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America)'s Mission is to promote personal growth and leadership development through family and consumer sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner and community leader, members develop skills for life through-

  Annual Education Forum held by the Collegiate CattleWomen- Held in conjunction with the Montana Livestock Forum & Nutrition Conference in April at the Gran Tree Inn in Bozeman. Montana CattleWomen help the Collegiate Cattlewomen with Project Funding from the Montana Beef Council to support this Beef Educational Forum. They are an active group and help with other events put on by the Montana CattleWomen and Montana Stockgrowers, as well as their own projects.
